State lawmaker and Confluence Partner Albert Hale poses for his Navajo County booking mugshot after being arrested Sunday, Nov. 23, 2014, on suspicion of DUI.

Former Navajo Nation President Albert Hale is facing driving while intoxicated charges.

Hale, 64, who is also an Arizona state representative, was arrested on Sunday by an officer for the Arizona Department of Public Safety near Holbrook and charged with DWI.

Jim Molesa, chief deputy in the Navajo County Sheriff’s Office, was quoted by the Associated Press as saying that Hale was booked into the county jail in Holbrook on Sunday, and then released on the same day after appearing for an initial court hearing.

No details of his arrest have been made public as of noon Wednesday.

Hale has made no public statement about the arrest, referring everything to his attorney, Michael Nelson.

Nelson said Wednesday that Hale “understands the process and will follow it. Let’s see where it takes us.”

Note: Hale, a State House District 7 incumbent who was re elected Nov. 4, is a member of Confluence Partners LLC along with Nelson. The other members include Eunice Tso and Scottsdale political consultant R. Lamar Whitmore.

The partners continue to seek funds to finance the Grand Canyon Escalade in Western Navajo.
