A bill to allow outside developers to build a controversial tram and tourist stop at the Confluence has slipped into an eery state of limbo, and its sponsor has gone silent on what his next move will be to push the widely opposed legislation.
After a tribal committee unanimously shot down a proposal to build a tourist resort at The Confluence, the Navajo Nation Council will hold a daylong work session to “study” the proposed development. But critics say the move is little more than a way for supporters of the project to lobby council members.
Grand Canyon Escalade Bill is on the agenda of Navajo Nation Council’s Resources and Development Committee at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, in New Mexico.
The effort by 22 people on an 80-mile relay run to draw attention to efforts to save the Confluence has won the praise of Hopi Tribe Chairman Herman Honanie. “Lolma Lolma. kwakwa for taking this great step,” Honanie wrote in a statement on the morning of the run, Sunday, Oct. 9.
