In 2005, the Nation banned uranium mining and milling on its reservation, and a 20-year ban on new mining claims on public lands adjacent to Grand Canyon is in effect. Yet rising uranium prices, already permitted mines, and thousands of existing claims on other Colorado Plateau lands raise the possibility of yet another uranium boom in our region.
