A Sunset Tribute In Honor of Our Veterans

Join veterans groups, color guards, performers and speakers at the American Indian Veterans National Memorial on the grounds of the Heard Museum for a special sunset tribute to veterans of the U.S. armed forces, followed by a reception commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War inside the museum’s Steele Auditorium.

The featured speaker is Richard H. Carmona, M.D., M.P.H., FACS, 17th surgeon general of the United States and distinguished professor at the University of Arizona.

After the 5 p.m. ceremony, attendees are invited to the Steele Auditorium for a 6 to 8 p.m. commemorative reception presented by Chapter 432 of the Vietnam Veterans of America. Wanda Wright, director of the Arizona Department of Veterans Services, will give remarks at this reception.

Earlier in the day, observe Vietnam-era artists painting in the Central Courtyard and enjoy music performed by the Larry Redhouse Trio from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Service and sacrifice spanning more than three centuries are honored in the first and only known national memorial to American Indian veterans of many conflicts.
