AZ Republic deems Escalade too risky for the Grand Canyon

When visitors see the dizzying depth of the Grand Canyon, someone inevitably quips, “Where’s the elevator?”

The Navajo Nation is looking to create one. An aerial tramway would carry people from the rim to river level.

The ride is the centerpiece of a planned tourist complex, where the reservation borders the east end of Grand Canyon National Park…
